Dental Association Announcing Toddler Cavity Prevention Program

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB), April 17, 2015 – Princeview Dental (www.PrinceviewDental.com), one of Etobicoke’s premier dental clinics, is weighing in on the Dental Association of Prince Edward Island (PEI) announcing its toddler cavity prevention program.

In an effort to broaden its reach and help aid cavity prevention in toddlers, the Dental Association of PEI is rolling out a new program where they offer one complimentary visit to toddlers under the age of three who have yet to see a dentist. “It’s never too early for children to visit a dentist,” says Dr. Janice Mummery, founder of Princeview Dental. “The Canadian Dental Association actually suggests dental visits as early as age one.”

Mummery explains that it may sound somewhat premature, but cavities can begin to appear as soon as teeth begin growing. In most cases, this happens before the age of one.

“From age one to age three, there is a two-year gap. Whether you’re an infant or an adult, that’s a long stretch of time not to visit a dentist,” she adds. “Toddlers eat a lot of foods and drink a lot of fluids, so it’s still necessary to examine the teeth that have already grown in.”

The Dental Association of PEI hopes to change the lack of toddlers receiving early dental care with its new program. Its plan includes getting younger children to visit a dental clinic early in the stages of their new teeth growing in.

“This is all about prevention. If it’s possible for dentists to examine and build a rapport with patients early on, then it becomes easier to identify and prevent any cavities or other oral healthcare issues,” Dr. Mummery concludes. “We at Princeview Dental hope the families in that region really see the long-term benefits of this program and take advantage of it.”

Princeview Dental offers its dental care services to families within the Etobicoke community and has done so for the past 20 years. For more information on Princeview Dental, visit www.PrinceviewDental.com.
