Toronto Academy of Dentistry Winter Clinic 2016

This year marks the 79th annual Toronto Academy of Dentistry Winter Clinic, a one-day convention that gathers all dental professionals from near and far to discuss and share ideas about innovative technological and industry-related advancements in dentistry. The event, which takes place on Friday, November 11, will be held at the Cineplex Cinemas Empress Walk Theatre in uptown Toronto (5095 Yonge Street).

It will commence with a Remembrance Day address from Brigadier-General Victor Lanctis. The keynote speaker at this very prestigious and highly anticipated event is noted sexologist Dr. Stephen J. DeWitt. Attendees will be provided with special handouts pertaining to his presentation as well as hard copies of Dr. J. Maggio’s Dental Caries Update: It’s About More Than Just Filling Holes and Dr. Frank Scannapieco’s Unanswered Questions in Periodontology.

Education Programs to Be Presented

The following continuing education programs will be presented at the Winter Clinic:

  • Recognition and treatment of dental caries
  • Clinical protocols
  • Oral systemic health inter-relations
  • Radiographic interpretation, sleep apnea
  • Updates on pediatric dentistry from the experts at the Hospital for Sick Children
  • Medicine for dentistry
  • Unanswered questions in periodontology
  • Endodontic-periodontal inter relationships
  • Marketing and cultural differences in the dental office

No matter what profession you are a part of, it is always important to stay well informed on the latest trends and practices in the industry. Participating in an event like the Winter Clinic affords an excellent opportunity to learn new things about your profession while also networking and making new contacts that may be of assistance to you along the way. Even if you think you know everything there is to know about any given profession—in this case, dentistry—there is always more to learn and different techniques to be acquired.

Take Full Advantage of the Winter Clinic

The Winter Clinic is composed of a multitude of diverse programs and interesting topics, so if you have an inquisitive mind by nature then it is important to start by pacing yourself. Remember, it is a one-day event and it only happens once a year, so it is important to prioritize which events you want to observe and which ones you would not mind skipping.

Make sure you keep a tight, well-planned schedule and that none of your chosen activities overlap one another. It is a good idea to bring your whole team so that they can all reap the benefits of furthering and improving their knowledge of different dental practices. Plus, it is a great way for them to also meet new people within their respective fields and gain a better understanding of and appreciation for the ever-growing and diverse dentistry community in Toronto.
