Advantages of Electric Toothbrushes Compared to Standard Tooth Brushing

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB), August 21, 2014 – Princeview Dental (www.PrinceviewDental.com), one of Etobicoke’s premier dental clinics, is announcing the advantages of using electric toothbrushes for teeth cleaning as opposed to manually brushing teeth.

“With where we are today and with the type of tooth brushing technology available, it’s generally accepted that electric toothbrushes are more effective at teeth cleaning,” says Dr. Janice Mummery, founder of Princeview Dental. “They remove more plaque and bacteria and do a more effective job cleaning the gums.” (Source: Kerr, D., “Which toothbrush [sic] best?” Today’s Dentistry web site; http://www.todaysdentistry.com.au/ask-a-dentist/which-toothbrush-best/, last accessed August 20, 2014.)

Dr. Mummery insists that whether an electric toothbrush is used or not, the frequency and manner in which teeth are brushed doesn’t change. Even if a person does use an electric toothbrush, it’s still important to brush at least twice throughout the day and for a minimum of two minutes with each brushing.

“Technique is also important. Patients shouldn’t automatically assume that their teeth will be cleaner because they are using an electronic toothbrush,” she adds. “A person brushing manually twice a day for four minutes with the proper technique will have better dental health than a person not being as stringent with an electronic toothbrush.”

“Essentially, tooth cleaning is more about frequency and proper technique than it is about the type of toothbrush that is used,” Dr. Mummery concludes. “And no matter how often patients brush their teeth, all of us at Princeview Dental encourage them to visit their dental clinic once every six months, unless instructed otherwise.”
